Comelec: 2.2 million voters register for 2019 polls
MANILA, Philippines — Around 2.2 million people have so far registered for the 2019 mid-term polls, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) reported yesterday.
James Jimenez, spokesman for the poll body, said the voters registered at the Comelec offices from July 2 to July 28. The figure does not include the voters from Marawi City in Lanao del Sur.
Of the number, 1.05 million are first time voters while those who applied for transfer of registration records reached 895,246. The applications for reactivation were 179,254 while the applications for change or correction of entry were 168,326.
The Comelec conducted satellite registration in barangay halls, public and private schools, commercial establishments and jails to reach out to more voters.
Records showed that Region 4-A posted the highest number of registrants with 372,834 followed by Region 3 with 260,712 and National Capital Region, 255,796.
The voter registration for next year’s elections ends on Sept. 29.
