CAMP FLORENDO, La Union, Philippines — Thirteen police chiefs in Ilocos region were relieved from their posts last week due to poor performance, Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, regional police director, said yesterday.
Relieved were the police chiefs of Batac, Pinili, Carasi and Nueva Era in Ilocos Norte; Candon, Narvacan, Santa, Alilem, Salcedo and Sugpon in Ilocos Sur, and Santol, Burgos and San Gabriel in La Union.
Their deputy chiefs were appointed officers-in-charge.
“It is their responsibility to improve crime clearance and efficiency in their locality. A way to ensure that the organization is working well is to see to it that the heads of units and offices are capable of doing the same,” Sapitula said.
He said the relieved police chiefs were assigned as checkpoint supervisors. – Eva Visperas, Emmanuel Tupas
