MANILA, Philippines — Top government officials appealed for more understanding and patience from the public yesterday for the traffic gridlocks caused by the Duterte administration’s Build Build Build program.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade and Public Works Secretary Mark Villar, in a joint briefing at the Palace, said the construction projects are causing heavy traffic now but will help boost infrastructure development and eventually ease traffic congestion.

Villar said the Department of Public Works and Highways is coordinating with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to address traffic congestion while the government implements major projects.

Villar said most of the projects will be completed in one to two years. He noted that the Laguna Lake Highway and the North Luzon Expressway Harbor Link project are opening this year.
