2 cops hurt in clash

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines  —  Two police officers were wounded after around 60 New People’s Army (NPA) rebels attacked a detachment of the Regional Public Safety Battalion in Barangay Tagcatong, Carmen, Agusan del Sur on Wednesday.

A firefight which lasted for around an hour snarled traffic along the highway, which connects the Gingoog, Cagayan de Oro and this city.

In Batangas, the body of an NPA rebel identified only as Jopoy was found covered with dried leaves in Sitio Sampaloc, Barangay Bulsa, San Juan also on Wednesday.

The military said the rebel could have been killed in an encounter with government troopers on Monday.
