MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon will continue to bring scattered to widespread rains over the western section of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said yesterday.

This developed as weather forecasters monitored another low-pressure area off Appari in Cagayan, which may enter the Philipine area of responsibility within the next 24 hours.

“While this weather disturbance currently has no direct effect on any part of the country, it is expected to enter PAR within the next 24 hours. It may also develop into a tropical depression within the next 48 hours,” PAGASA said.

The southwest monsoon will directly affect Bataan, Mindoro, Palawan and Zambales. Residents, especially those living in low-lying and mountainous areas have been warned against flashfloods and landslides.

“Western Visayas, Cavite, Batangas and Laguna will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms,” PAGASA said.

The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with rainshowers or thunderstorms.
