MANILA, Philippines — A drug store in Lipa City, Batangas has been ordered closed for allegedly selling fake medicine, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported yesterday.

FDA agents seized the fake drugs following a sting recently conducted on Noemi’s Pharmacy located in the Batangas Public Market.

Aside from selling fake medicine, the store – owned by Noemi Fernandez – has reportedly been operating without the supervision of a registered pharmacist, FDA regulatory enforcement unit chief Allen Bantolo said.

The FDA received reports that the store was selling fake products of pharmaceutical company Unilab, prompting the agency to conduct  a sting.

“The mefenamic acid being sold at Noemi’s were found to be counterfeit,” Bantolo said, adding the FDA immediately ordered the store closed for 30 days.

Charges will be filed against the drug store owner, the FDA said.
