PNP destroys P11.8-million counterfeit goods
MANILA, Philippines — Around P11.8 million worth of counterfeit and pirated products were destroyed by the Philippine National Police at Camp Crame in Quezon City yesterday.
The items that were destroyed are part of the P6.7 billion worth of fake and pirated products seized in the first five months of the year.
Among the products that were destroyed were 103 fake Louis Vuitton products worth P6.3 million, 520 counterfeit Lacoste apparel and shoes worth P2.6 million and 1,193 cans of lubricants worth P393,690.
Other counterfeit products such as medicines and jackets were also destroyed.
An armored personnel carrier from the police Special Action Force flattened thousands of pirated DVDs placed in 150 sacks.
Josephine Santiago, director general of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines, said intellectual property owners should play a more aggressive role if they want to curb piracy.
