MANILA, Philippines — Civilian communities within Crow Valley in Capas, Tarlac face eviction as the military plans to expand the area for its bombing and gunnery exercises.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said they are only waiting for the needed funds for the relocation of affected residents of Barangay Sta. Juliana.

Lorenzana did not say how many families would be relocated.

Members of the Aeta tribe  have pending ancestral domain claim over the area.

Lorenzana said there were no civilian communities in the military reservation prior to the closure of the US air base at Clark Field in Pampanga.

“When the Americans left in 1992, they (residents) came in. When our Air Force took over the area in 2002, they’re there. Some of them claim that they have been there for a long time,” he said.

“We need a large area. If there are civilians there, the danger of them being hit by bombs is not remote. We have to move them. That’s why we are preventing them from putting up permanent structures,” he said.
