POEA: No deployment of caregivers to Japan

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has stopped recruitment agencies from recruiting caregivers and other workers for deployment to Japan.

In an advisory, POEA chief Bernard Olalia ordered licensed land-based recruitment companies to refrain from undertaking any recruitment and manpower pooling activities of caregivers for Japan.

“Recruitment agencies are directed not to engage in recruitment and placement of workers until appropriate guidelines are issued by the POEA,” Olalia said.

The POEA has received reports that several recruitment agencies have been deploying caregivers to Japan.

The agency has not issued guidelines for the recruitment and deployment of caregivers under the 2016 Technical Intern Training Act of Japan.
