3 carjackers shot dead in Calabarzon

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Philippines — Three suspected carjackers were killed in separate encounters with police officers in Laguna and Rizal on Saturday.

Two of the fatalities, whose names were not immediately available, died at the scene after exchanging fire with police officers at around 3 a.m. in Barangay San Antonio, Biñan.

Highway Patrol Group regional director Superintendent Peter Dionisio said authorities conducted a checkpoint in the area after a resident, identified as Jeric Ansino, complained that his motorcycle was stolen.

The suspects reportedly fired at the lawmen manning the checkpoint, triggering an encounter.

Probers recovered two handguns and two motorcycles at the scene.

On the same day, police shot dead a suspected carjacker who allegedly took a motorcycle owned by Renato Sablaya in Barangay Delaz, Antipolo City.
