Cop kills ex-driver for stealing car

MANILA, Philippines — A policeman shot dead his former driver after he spotted the man driving his car, which was reported stolen last June 11, in Parañaque Friday night.

Roderick Paulino died at the San Juan de Dios Hospital (SJDH) shortly after Police Officer 2 Aivan Aliani of Pasay Police Community Precinct 5 shot him near Baclaran Church, the Parañaque police said.

Paulino reportedly tried to run down Aliani when the policeman confronted him.

Police reported that Paulino, who used Aliani’s car as a transport network vehicle service unit, allegedly did not remit his earnings to Aliani and kept the car since June 8.

To defend himself, Aliani shot Paulino in the head and hit vendors Luz Mendonez, 57; Joan Casilao, 32; and Mary Lingat, 21, according to investigators. The vendors are being treated at the SJDH.

Aliani has surrendered to the police.
