MANILA, Philippines — Groups from various sectors are set to gather on June 12 to call for the return of the comfort woman statue to its original site along Roxas Boulevard.
In a statement, Kaisa para sa Kaunlaran president Ma. Teresita Ang See said her group, along with members of Lila Pilipina, Memorare Manila 1945, Gabriela, Descendants of Wha Chi Guerrillas Association in the Philippines, Bataan Historical Legacy, Philippine World War II Memorial Foundation, University of the Philippines Likas, students from various universities and Philippine history professors will gather at the site on Independence Day to honor Filipino women who were forced into brothels and repeatedly raped by Japanese soldiers during World War II.
