SC to rule on P6.6 billion Globe Asiatique estafa raps

Edu Punay - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Supreme Court (SC) is set to finally resolve next week the case against property developer Globe Asiatique and its detained president Delfin Lee over the alleged anomalous housing projects in Pampanga worth P6.6 billion.

Lee was indicted on charges of syndicated estafa for allegedly defrauding the government of P6.6 billion in housing loan proceeds for home buyers, whom investigators later found to be fictitious or had incomplete documents.

After resetting the deliberations on the case 22 times since June 2015, the High Court set the case for decision when it resumes session on June 5 after its decision-writing break.

The High Court will specifically rule on the petition of Department of Justice  and Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-IBIG) in 2014 questioning the decision of the Court of Appeals in 2013 that quashed the charges against the businessman and ordered his release from detention.

In ruling on the case, the SC is likewise expected to decide on the repeated pleadings of Lee to lift the temporary restraining order it issued in March 2014 that prevented his release from detention at the Pampanga provincial jail.
