300 families lose homes in Quezon City fire

MANILA, Philippines — At least 300 families were left homeless and five people were injured in a fire that hit a slum area in Quezon City yesterday.

An initial report from the Quezon City fire department said around 200 houses along Aparagus street in Barangay Vasra were destroyed.

Arson investigators said five people, including two minors, suffered lacerations and burns during the blaze. Rescuers gave them first aid treatment.

The fire started at a three-story house owned by a certain Rodney Pedrogasa while the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The fire reached fifth alarm at around 5:35 p.m. before firefighters placed it under control before 7 p.m.

Probers have yet to determine the estimated cost in damage to property.
