MANILA, Philippines — A policeman was gunned down in Sta. Cruz, Manila yesterday morning.
Police Officer 1 Manuel Cabusao, 31, detailed at the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 10, was riding his motorcycle when he was attacked by a motorcycle-riding assailant at the corner of Remigio and Severino streets at around 10:34 a.m.
Probers said Cabusao was half-naked and not wearing a helmet when the assailant shot him once in the head and twice in the body.
MPD homicide chief Senior Inspector Rommel Anicete said they are still trying to acquire closed-circuit television footages to aid their investigation.
MPD spokesman Superintendent Erwin Margarejo said a follow-up team was dispatched to backtrack the route taken by Cabusao before the incident and to find potential witnesses.
The victim had been in the service for four years and was recently transferred to the Penafrancia police community precinct, according to MPD Station 10 commander Superintendent Robert Domingo.
Cabusao’s personal data sheet shows that he was a recipient of three efficiency medals and two commendation medals.
