Probers: Councilor bet killed over womanizing
MANILA, Philippines — Barangay councilor candidate Anthony Echavez may have been killed last April 30 over his womanizing, not his involvement in politics, police said yesterday.
Senior Superintendent Noel Flores said they no longer consider Echavez’s killing as election-related as he was running for the first time as kagawad in Barangay 4 and had no rivals.
His widow told police Echavez, 36, was a “womanizer who had 11 children with other women,” Flores said.
He noted that witnesses saw Echavez shot by an assailant driving a motorcycle, who passed the gun he used to a woman riding behind him.
The gunman told the woman that she had her revenge, Flores added.
