Fire hits newly elected barangay councilor's home in Manila
MANILA, Philippines — A newly elected barangay councilor was among those left homeless when a fire broke out at a residential area in Tondo, Manila Monday night.
Barangay 162 kagawad Elisa Irinco was ecstatic when she finished third among those elected councilor, but her joy disappeared when she was told that a fire engulfed her house at the corner of Bulacan and Solis streets at around 7:30 p.m.
The fire also gutted a garments factory as it reached third alarm before it was put out an hour later.
Firefighters rushed to protect Torres High School, located a few meters from where the fire broke out.
At least six families were affected and an estimated P100,000 worth of properties were destroyed.
The fire reignited yesterday morning and spread to an adjacent building owned by a Chinese businessman. It reached third alarm as of 4:30 p.m. yesterday.
A volunteer firefighter reportedly incurred lacerations.
Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
