Aftershocks hit Catanduanes anew

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines — Aside from 15 aftershocks that were detected three days after a magnitude-6 earthquake hit Catanduanes, state sesimologists have recorded 11 more mild shocks in Pandan and Gigmoto towns.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the new aftershocks – with magnitudes 2 to 3.8. – were felt from Tuesday until yesterday.

The magnitude-6 quake that occurred on May 5 was felt up to Intensity 4 in several areas of Luzon and the Visayas.

The quake did not cause any casualty or damage to property.

Jun Bonita, analyst at the Phivolcs seismological observation and earthquake prediction division, said the aftershocks could last up to two weeks from the day it occurred.
