Erap to barangay, SK bets: Follow Comelec rules
MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada yesterday asked candidates for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections to abide by the campaign guidelines set by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) ahead of the synchronized polls on May 14.
Estrada also called on the voters not to elect candidates involved in corruption and illegal drugs.
“Do not vote for barangay officials who are involved in anomalies. Protect your community against these kind of officials,” he said.
There are 896 barangays in the city.
Under Republic Act 9007 or the Fair Election Act, barangay candidates have spending limit of P5 only per registered voter.
Estrada also reminded the candidates not to engage in early campaigning, black propaganda, vote-buying and other illegal acts.
The official campaign period for the barangay and SK polls starts is from May 4 to 12.
Campaign materials such as posters and banners should be posted in areas designated by the Comelec. Posting of campaign materials on government vehicles, police cars, highways, trees and electric posts are prohibited.
