MMDA files raps vs Manila village chief
MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) yesterday filed charges of neglect of duty against a barangay chairperson in Manila.
In a three-page complaint filed with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), MMDA acting general manager Jojo Garcia alleged that Barangay 659, Zone 71 chairperson Ligaya Santos did not comply with her obligation to maintain cleanliness and order in her barangay after the MMDA’s clearing operations team removed traffic obstructions on Oct. 25, 2017.
He said when the MMDA inspected the barangay in December 2017, the team found the obstructions were either still there or returned after being removed.
The MMDA and the DILG signed an agreement during the stint of former MMDA officer-in-charge Tim Orbos to run after irresponsible barangay officials who will not help in the clearing operations of the agency.
Under Orbos’s watch, the MMDA filed charges against six barangay officials in Quezon City and one in Parañaque City, according to Bong Nebrija, supervising operations officer of the MMDA.
