MANILA, Philippines — Two Camarines Sur congressmen engaged in a shouting match at a police station in Pili town on Wednesday.
Video footage of the confrontation between Reps. Rolando Andaya Jr. and Luis Raymund Villafuerte has gone viral.
Andaya said the mayor of Pili and several farmers sought his help after people identified with the Villafuerte camp dumped truckloads of sand on a road in their barangay.
Andaya said he went to the place and confiscated some bolos and knives and turned them over to the police station, where he encountered Villafuerte and his supporters.
Villafuerte said the barangay road is part of the Naga airport expansion project. “This has been pending for years and now the local government already has a writ of possession,” he said.
Villafuerte added that the Andaya camp has guns despite the election ban.
A video footage shows Andaya shouting at Villafuerte and his group and being restrained by policemen and their supporters. Another shows Pili farmers protesting against Villafuerte’s airport expansion project.
The incumbent governor of Camarines Sur is Villafuerte’s son Miguel Luis.
Andaya has announced his plan to run for governor in next year’s elections.
