MANILA, Philippines — Two anti-narcotics policemen were relieved from their posts yesterday after a drug suspect they escorted for inquest proceedings in Quezon City managed to escape.
Police Officers 1 Jayson Landayan and Randy Yape were placed on administrative holding over the escape of Jhan Jhan Abacian, 21.
Landayan and Yape were escorting Abacian back to the police station when the detainee jumped out of the police car along Quirino Highway in Barangay Bagbag at past 12 a.m. on Saturday.
Abacian allegedly managed to escape police custody after he detached his handcuffs.
Landayan and Yape, assigned with the Novaliches police station anti-drug enforcement unit, failed to recapture Abacian, who ran toward the Sauyo market.
Abacian has undergone inquest proceedings at the Quezon City prosecutor’s office and police were escorting him back to the station when he escaped.
Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar, director of the Quezon City Police District, said charges of infidelity of custody of a detainee and grave misconduct and serious irregularity in the performance of duty would be filed against the policemen.
Police have launched a manhunt for Abacian. He was arrested for alleged possession of eight sachets of shabu and marijuana during a sting on Thursday.
