Magnitude 6 tremor shakes Davao Oriental
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 6 earthquake jolted parts of Mindanao before Thursday noon, according to the Philippines Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
In its latest bulletin, Phivolcs said the quake occurred at 11:53 a.m. Its epicenter was traced 42 kilometers of Tarragona, Davao Oriental.
The tremor was felt at intensity IV in Mati City and Intensity III in the cities of Davao, Cagayan De Oro and General Santos. On the other hand, Bislig City, Surigao City and Alabal and Sarangani experienced the quake at Intensity II.
Phivolcs explained that an Intensity IV quake is considered moderately strong with a vibration that is “felt like a passing of heavy truck” and hanging objects swinging considerably.
The agency said there was no damage from the magnitude 6 quake but it warned residents of possible aftershocks.
