78 Taiwanese deported for cyber fraud
MANILA, Philippines — The 78 Taiwanese arrested by the Philippine National Police (PNP) for cyber fraud last January have been deported to China.
The Taiwanese were turned over to the Chinese police at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 by the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday night.
Prior to the deportation, the DOJ said it coordinated with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office.
The suspects were nabbed by members of the PNP Anti-Cyber Crime Group during raids in Las Piñas City and Ilocos Sur for their involvement in fraudulent telecommunications operations.
Chinese authorities sought the assistance of the PNP last year after they monitored around 100 internet protocol addresses in China coming from the Philippines.
Police said the suspects victimized around 100 Chinese business owners.
Immigration officials said the Taiwanese entered the Philippines using tourist visas and have no working permits.
