3 dead, 6 injured in Manila Pavilion fire

The Waterfront Manila Pavilion hotel and casino is covered with thick smoke after a fire that broke out around 9:30 a.m. Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the fire that reached task force bravo as of 12noon sunday.

MANILA Philippines (UPDATED 5:18 p.m)–The fire that broke in Waterfront Manila Pavilion Hotel & Casino in United Nations, Manila, left three dead on Sunday.

Officials lowered the number of deaths from four to three, after a woman, earlier declared to be dead on arrival, was revived.  She is now in critical condition. 

The three fatalities were initially reported to be in critical condition. They were rushed to the nearby hospital, Manila Doctors Hospital.

In a radio interview, Manila Fire District chief Crossid Cante said the flame started on the fifth floor of the hotel.

Fire volunteer TxtFire Philippines said the fire started at around 9:49 am.

The authorities reported that around 19 people were trapped in the building's fifth and tenth floors.

At 11:32 a.m., the blaze reached Task Force Bravo. The Bureau of Fire Protection said 18 firetrucks respond during such alarm.

"The hotel management has taken steps to ensure the safety and security of our hotel guests and employees We will issue a full report once thorough investigation has  been completed," the management said in a statement. 

Meanwhile, President Rodrigo Duterte conducted an aerial inspection of the affected areas on Sunday afternoon.
