Motor failure stalls MRT-3 train

Ghio Ong - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — For the fourth time this month, a train of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) broke down yesterday morning.

A southbound MRT-3 train unloaded 200 passengers at Quezon Avenue station at around 5:37 a.m., according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

The glitch was due to “electrical failure in the motor” caused by “worn-out electrical sub-components,” the DOTr said.

Last March 3,350 passengers were forced off a train after it halted due to motor failure.

MRT-3 trains also broke down due to errors in the signaling system on March 5 and 8, causing the rail line to offload 1,200 passengers.
