DILG to release list of disqualified barangay poll bets

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is on the lookout  for barangay officials serving their third term but still plan to run in the elections in May.

The regional offices of the DILG have been ordered to submit the names of these barangay captains and councilmen, DILG officer-in-charge Undersecretary Eduardo Año said yesterday.

Año said the list would be submitted to the Commission on Elections before the filing of certificates of candidacy on April 14 to 20 for posting in conspicuous places.

Under Republic Act 7160 or the Local Government Code, no local elective official shall serve in the same position for more than three consecutive terms.

As of yesterday, four DILG regional offices had submitted their lists.

Under the list submitted by the DILG-Ilocos, 745 barangay captains and 4,438 councilors are barred from running.

In Mimaropa, 319 barangay captains and 1,792 councilors are on their third consecutive term, 638 barangay captains and 4,059 councilors in Central Visayas and 290 barangay captains and 1,626 councilors in Caraga.
