MANILA, Philippines – Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque on Monday said Deputy Speaker Gwendolyn Garcia (Cebu) paid for fans bearing his face and listing bills he worked on while at the House of Representatives.
"Well, I think the issue is who paid for the fans, I'll answer that: Deputy Speaker Gwen Garcia," Roque said. "As, in fact, all the fans are in Cebu."
In jest, Roque said it would be too expensive to bring the fans, which he said are a gift from Garcia, to Manila.
The fans bearing Roque's printed photos and advocacies drew attention on social media when one Twitter user insinuated that the presidential spokesperson seems to be getting ready for the 2019 elections.
"Alam na alam mo agad yung mga may balak humabol next elections," the Twitter user wrote.

Asked if he is planning to run for senator, Roque said he does not know yet.
"I don't know. That was given to me by Gwen Garcia, it's too much of a waste not to distribute it, especially since we first distributed the fans in Cebu and it was also for an occasion involving a cooperative founded by the mother of Deputy Speaker Gwen Garcia—Cebu CFI [Community Cooperative]," Roque said.
The presidential spokesman clarified that he is not using his post to campaign early.
Roque said holding press briefings in various parts of the country is his way to reach out to the members of the press in the provinces.
