MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard yesterday questioned Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Martin Diño’s wearing of a PCG auxiliary uniform.

In a statement, the PCG said Diño is not allowed to wear the uniform because he is “not a legitimate member of the organization.”

The agency cited Republic Act 9993 or the PCG Law of 2010, which gives the PCG the sole authority over the PCG auxiliary membership and activities.

“The PCG has the right to file a complaint for usurpation of authority and other laws that may be violated by the improper wearing of the organization’s rank and uniform,” read the statement.

The PCG said it would coordinate with Diño about the matter, adding the official may have been “misled and recruited by a bogus PCG auxiliary organization known for collecting money from its recruits.”

PCG officials said they were checking reports that a certain Admiral Villanueva from the Manila Yacht Club was behind the scheme.

The PCG issued the statement after a picture of Diño wearing the uniform was posted on social media sites.
