New Cagayan airport to launch international flights
TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Philippines — The newly completed Cagayan North International Airport (CNIA) in Lal-lo town will launch its first international flight from Macau on March 23.
Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) administrator Raul Lambino said the airport has received its full aerodrome certificate from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines after the facilities on its runway were upgraded.
The airport’s precision approach path indicator was also installed and obstructions along the runway have been cleared.
Lambino said Cebu Pacific’s first domestic flight would start next month.
Besides domestic flights, Lambino said there would be direct flights to and from Japan, China, Taiwan, Singapore and South Korea.
“We are ready to open CNIA to East Asia and North Pacific,” Lambino said.
When fully operational, he said the airport can accommodate bigger aircraft like the Airbus 320.
Lambino said the CEZA is also eyeing the establishment of a flying school, the first in Cagayan Valley, to complement the operations of its new airport. – Victor Martin
