Group sets rally vs Charter change
MANILA, Philippines — Cause-oriented group Tindig Pilipinas has set a rally on Feb. 25 against efforts by President Duterte and his allies for Charter change.
Organizers hope to mobilize 15,000 people for the rally, which coincides with the 32nd anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.
The rally, which shall start at around 3 p.m., will be held at the EDSA People Power Monument in Quezon City.
Similar activities will be held in other parts of the country such as Zambales, Cebu, Iloilo and Bacolod City.
In a press briefing, members of the group warned the public that the real intention of Duterte and his allies in amending the 1987 Constitution is to extend themselves in power.
They also promised to counter the efforts of Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, who has been promoting Charter change in his visits to other parts of the country.
Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano said the problem is people are not being informed about the details of amending the Constitution.
“They are just saying this is good for the country,” Alejano said in the press briefing.
Alejano said with the public should look at the Duterte administration, which seems to be focused on personal interests rather than the country’s welfare.
