2 nabbed over fake land titles

Cecille Suerte Felipe - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Two persons were arrested for allegedly selling property using fake land titles in Quezon City, an official said yesterday.

More than 30 persons are ready to file complaints against real estate developer Mateo Agner, 54, and Melissa Baladia, 40, according to Senior Superintendent Wilson Asueta, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-National Capital Region chief.

The two were arrested during a sting at Agner’s house in Fairview Park Subdivision last Thursday, Asueta said.

The operation stemmed from a complaint filed by Josie del Rosario and three others accusing Agner and Baladia of selling properties with fake titles amounting to P18 million.

Asueta said the complainants discovered the scam when they verified the land titles with different agencies, including the Land Registration Authority, Supreme Court and the real owners of the properties.
