MANILA, Philippines — A popular bakeshop and cafe in Quezon City caught fire early Tuesday.

The blaze occurred at around 1 a.m. along Judge Jimenez and burned the 79-year-old bakeshop, Kamuning Bakery.

The fire hit the bakeshop hours after a commercial establishment and residential area along the same street also caught fire.

The bakeshop was saved during the first fire that reached second alarm.

Radio reports said the Bureau of Fire Protection responded to the fire incident and declared the blaze under control around 2:30 a.m.

The cafe owner, Wilson Lee Flores, who is currently out of the country, took back his earlier statement that his bakeshop was spared from the fire. He reported that the recurring blaze burnt his cafe.

“All bakers & staff evacuated fast from burning 79-year-old Kamuning Bakery Cafe tonight, old narra tree burnt but still alive too,” Flores said on his Facebook post.
