BFAR offers scholarships
SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union , Philippines — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) will conduct its nationwide recruitment examination for its fisheries scholarship program on Feb. 24.
Nestor Domenden, BFAR Region 1 director, said the scholarship is open in two categories - Fisheries Scholarship Program for Industry Leaders (IL) and Fisherfolk Children Educational Grant (FCEG).
The IL scholarship is exclusive to the top 10 of the senior high school graduating class while the FCEG are for SHS graduating students whose parents are registered fisherfolk in their city or municipality.
“It’s a competitive fisheries scholarship to help the children of small-scale registered fisherfolk and honor graduate students who want to pursue a four-year fisheries program but can not afford college education,” Domenden said.
The top five examinees among the IL who will pass the examination on Feb. 24 are required to pass the entrance exam and enroll in any of the following state universities and colleges (SUCs) for admission: Central Luzon State University (Nueva Ecija), University of the Philippines Visayas (Iloilo), and the Zamboanga Polytechnic State College (Zamboanga).
The top examinees for FCEG are required to pass the entrance exam and apply for admission in their respective nearby fisheries SUCs, said Domenden.
Scholarship support and privileges will include school fees, monthly living allowance, on-the-job training or practicum support, book allowance, thesis and graduation support.
