A 23-year-old man was killed after his car was dragged by a cargo truck in a collision at a busy intersection in Caloocan city Wednesday.
Jim Paul Dychingco was driving a Honda Civic Sedan along C3 Road at around 3:15 p.m. when an Isuzu cargo truck hit his car and dragged it to the corner of A. del Mundo street near the intersection of Rizal and Fifth Avenues, police said.
The cargo truck, driven by Frederick de Veyra, 26, was on its way to Navotas City in the truck lane, when he hit a trailer truck and two other vehicles.
Dychingco and his passenger Carmela Flores, 21, sustained serious physical injuries.
They were brought to the Caloocan city Medical Center, where Dychingco was declared dead on arrival.
Before dragging the victim's vehicle, De Veyra first hit a trailer truck and then lost control, hitting Dychingco’s Honda Civic and sideswiping a Hyundai Getz, driven by Aldwin Punzalan, on the inner lane.
According to the Caloocan city police traffic unit, De Veyra underwent inquest proceedings yesterday on charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and serious physical injury as well as damage to property.
He is detained at the city police station pending the filing of charges.
