SOUTH COTABATO, Philippines — Gunmen shot dead the deputy police chief of Polomolok town and wounded five others in a daring attack Tuesday.
Senior Inspector German Gabat was declared dead on arrival by physicians of a nearby hospital where he was brought for treatment.
Gabat and companions had just arrived near a shopping mall in the municipal center of Polomolok when they were attacked. Polomolok, a first class municipality of South Cotabato province, is home of the biggest pineapple plantation in the country.
Superintendent Romeo Galgo, Jr., spokesman of the Police Regional Office-12, said on Wednesday that five other people were wounded in the shooting. The wounded were also brought to hospitals for treatment.
Local police probers are still investigating the incident.
