MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Gorio (international name Nesat) has intensified further as it maintains its course toward Taiwan.

As of 4 a.m. on Saturday, "Gorio" was located 200 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes and has the maximum sustained winds of 145 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 180 kph.

Typhoon Gorio is still moving northwest at 17 kph.

Batanes province was again placed under signal no. 2 while the Babuyan Group of Islands is still under signal no. 1.

PAGASA said it is monitoring a tropical depression located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility at 560 km west of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

"These weather systems will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon which will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over the western section of Northern and Central Luzon while light to moderate rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon," PAGASA said.

The state weather bureau warned that sea travel is risky in the seaboards of northern Luzon and the western seaboard of central Luzon and southern Luzon.

Gorio is expected to leave PAR on Sunday morning.
