BFAR bans fishing in Davao Gulf
DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Authorities has declared a three-month fishing ban in Davao Gulf.
The regional office of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) said the ban, which started on June 1, was meant to conserve fish species and other marine life in the gulf.
This is the fourth year that the ban is being implemented in the area.
The BFAR expects fishermen to comply with the order, saying a team will patrol the area to strictly implement the ban.
The strict implementation of the fishing ban in the gulf increased by 9.5 percent the volume of fishermen’s catch in 2015.
It also improved harvest at the aquaculture and marine centers in Panabo City and in the Garden Island of Samal, both in Davao del Norte; Pantukan, Compostela Valley and Mati City, all in Davao Oriental, and Malita in Davao Occidental.
