MANILA, Philippines — Calatrava town is the first municipality to be declared "drug cleared" in Romblon.
Police Regional Office MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) said the Regional Oversight Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs evaluated all seven barangays of Calatrava town before declaring it "drug cleared", the Odiongan-based Romblon News Network reported.
Romblon News Network also reported that the evaluation was done with the cooperation of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the local government units, and stakeholders.
The Dangerous Drugs Board, which sets the country's drug policy, considers a barangay drug free if there is no drug supply, pusher or user in the area.
"Drug free" barangays should also have anti-drug programs, including a drug treatment and rehabilitation processing desk.
Localities considered "drug cleared" are those that were once classified as "drug affected," which happens when there are reported drug users in the area. The degree of being affected depends on the severity of drug activity there.
Other towns in MIMAROPA that have been declared "drug free" are Mansalay in Oriental Mindoro and Magsaysay in Occidental Mindoro, Romblon News Network reported.
