3 NPA rebels slain in Bukidnon clash
BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – Three New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed in an encounter with soldiers in Barangay Licoan, Sumilao, Bukidnon on Wednesday.
The fatalities were known only for their aliases of Aryong, Janie and Jemboy.
Five other rebels were wounded.
Meanwhile, two policemen were wounded in another encounter with NPA rebels in Lucban, Quezon also on Wednesday.
Police Officer 2 Aldrin Leonida and PO1 Bong Himor were with two teams conducting combat operations at the boundary of Barangays Kalangay and Mahabang Parang when they clashed with around 30 rebels at around 11:45 a.m.
Senior Superintendent Rhoderick Armamento, Quezon police director, ordered his men to put up checkpoints and coordinate with the 80th Infantry Battalion in conducting pursuit operations for the rebels.
In Sultan Kudarat, Kalamansig town Mayor Ronan Garcia and barangay officials said military detachments should be put up in remote barangays to prevent NPA guerrillas from entering farming communities.
A Marine soldier died and several other government troopers were wounded when the rebels stormed Barangay Hinalaan last month. Another group entered Barangay Sangay on Monday. – Ben Serrano, Michelle Zoleta, Gerry Lee Gorit
