Bomb joke at cops lands worker in jail

MANILA, Philippines - A bus company employee was arrested by police after he made a bomb joke at a terminal along EDSA on Friday night.

Gilso Escasa, 37, was apprehended when he shouted that there was a bomb inside a bag left at the DLTB bus terminal in Barangay Pinagkaisahan at around 8:45 p.m.

Personnel from the bomb squad of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) were conducting a “render safe” procedure on the bag when Escasa shouted “Bomba! Boom!” at the team.

He was arrested and was brought to the Kamuning police station. He faces charges for violating Presidential Decree 1727 or the bomb joke law.

Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar, QCPD director, said the public should not make jokes about bomb threats, especially following the recent bombings in Manila.
