Bong Alvarez nabbed for beating girlfriend

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – Former professional basketball player Paul “Bong” Alvarez, 48, was arrested here on Saturday for allegedly beating up his girlfriend.

Baguio police said Maryanne Ting, 38, reported that Alvarez beat her up at a transient house in Purok Cudirao, Loakan Proper following an altercation. Prior to the incident, it was learned that the couple had a drinking spree at the Ganza restaurant in Burnham Park.

Alvarez is facing charges for physical injuries.

The former basketball superstar was earlier accused of physical altercations with a taxi driver, a female reporter and even his co-players.
