6 Visayas provinces declared insurgency-free
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – Six provinces in the Visayas have been cleared of communist insurgents.
Maj. Gen. Jon Aying, 3rd Infantry Division commander, said the insurgency problem was resolved in Antique, Aklan, Guimaras, Siquijor, Cebu and Bohol.
Aying said Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Iloilo and Capiz are the next focus of their campaign dubbed ”Pag-Uswag” to clear more provinces of communist rebels.
The program aims to attain peace and security and sustainable development in the Negros Island Region as well as Western and Central Visayas. It includes law enforcement, peace process, legal cooperation, security reform, public safety, grassroots community development, humanitarian assistance and disaster response.
