Missing Ecija treasure hunter found

CABANATUAN CITY, Philippines – Police has recovered the body of a 40-year-old treasure hunter who was reported missing during a landslide in Bongabon, Nueva Ecija last week.

The body of Frederick Sombillo was recovered on Thursday night, three days after the accident that occurred in Barangay Villa Paraiso, Rizal town, according to provincial police director Senior Superintendent Antonio Yarra.

Sombillo, along with Pedro Tapang, 60,went to the site to supposedly search for hidden treasures.

In November, Sombillo was allowed by property owner Ismael Braganza to conduct treasure hunting at the site.

Sombillo’s team started digging on Feb. 28.

On Monday night, Sombillo and Tapang entered the site, but a landslide occurred.

Tapang was rescued four hours after the accident.
