NORTH COTABATO, Philippines - Tremors twice shook early Wednesday in a span of 60 minutes parts of North Cotabato and the provincial capital Kidapawan City.

In an advisory, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the first of the two tremors was recorded at magnitude 3.5 on the Richter scale.

It was felt at 7:39 a.m. Wednesday in North Cotabato’s Makilala town, in Kidapawan City and nearby municipalities in the province.

The Phivolcs said the earthquakes were of tectonic origin, traced at 16 kilometers east of Makilala with a depth of 16 kilometers.

The second tremor, recorded at magnitude 2.9, was felt exactly one hour later in the same areas.

The local Phivolcs office has cautioned North Cotabato residents against possible aftershocks.
