Drug suspect slain; 9 fall in stings, raids

MANILA, Philippines - A suspected drug pusher was killed in a shootout with police operatives along Quirino highway in San Jose del Monte City in Bulacan yesterday. 

Adrian Sanchez, 39, a resident of Barangay Bagong Silang in Quezon City, refused to pull over at a checkpoint and fired at policemen in Sitio Sapang Alat in Barangay San Manuel. His companion escaped.

Senior Superintendent Romeo Caramat, Bulacan police acting director, said 10 sachets of shabu, a weighing scale, a gun, ammunition, P1,800 in cash and a Honda motorcycle were among the items recovered at the scene.

Nine other alleged drug pushers were arrested in anti-drug operations on Monday.

Nobaisa Tanggo was collared in a sting in Cagayan de Oro City.

Senior Inspector Maricris Mulat said Tanggo yielded 210 grams of shabu with an estimated street value of P1.5 million.

Mulat said Tanggo is on the watchlist of the police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Rodolfo Cabanos Jr. was nabbed after 12 sachets of shabu were seized during a raid on his house in Barangay San Antonio in Iligan City in Isabela, police said.

In Agusan del Norte, .5 grams of shabu estimated to cost P5,900 were reportedly recovered from Madel Ganzon, 19, during a raid in Barangay Amontay in Nasipit town.

Teresita Gregorio, 57, and Antonio Balanlay, 45, did not resist arrest when cornered along Parola street in Barangay San Andres in Cainta, Rizal.

Alishar Huebos, 34, alias Ali, was nabbed in a sting at Doña Francisca Subdivision in Hermosa, Bataan. He reportedly yielded 11 sachets of shabu with an estimated value of P300,000, a caliber .38 revolver, a caliber .45 pistol and ammunition.

Three others were arrested in Legazpi City, Albay and Daet, Camarines Norte.
