Militants try to occupy another housing project

MALOLOS, Philippines –The militant Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (Kadamay) tried to occupy another government housing project in Bulacan yesterday.

Around 200 members of Kadamay trooped to a housing project for police and military personnel in Barangay Batia in Bocaue town at around 10 a.m.

The militants left at around 3 p.m. after operatives of the Bulacan police prevented them from taking over the vacant units.

Around 5,000 members of Kadamay took over around 1,500 vacant units in housing projects in Pandi and San Jose del Monte last week.

Some had vacated the homes after the National Housing Authority (NHA) said it would issue an eviction order on March 20.

However, many stood their ground and even barricaded the roads leading to the housing units to prevent any group from ejecting them.

In an earlier statement, Kadamay said it would “defend the occupied units against any form of eviction.”

The NHA gave assurance it would help those who want to avail themselves of housing units, but they should follow the procedure and submit the necessary documents.
