Cops sacked for sleeping on duty

Raymund Catindig, Gilbert Bayoran - The Philippine Star

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines  – At least 10 Bacolod City policemen have been relieved from their posts after they were caught sleeping while on duty.

The policemen, whose identities were withheld, were transferred to the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) pending the hearing of the administrative charges filed against them.

“They will be given due process,” Superintendent Noel Polines, BCPO spokesperson, said yesterday.

Meanwhile, Chief Superintendent Renato Gumban, Negros Island Region police director, said more police officers would be transferred to Mindanao over alleged links to the illegal drug trade.

Gumban said he received reports that suspected drug lord Ricky Serenio is preparing a supplemental affidavit identifying the policemen.

“If you are involved in drugs as mentioned in an affidavit, you will be transferred to Camp Crame that will deploy you either to Basilan or Tawi-Tawi,” Gumban said.

A total of 41 NIR police officers were transferred to the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao last year over illegal drugs.

In Isabela, Senior Inspector Juan Deodato, deputy chief of the San Pablo police station, and seven of his men were relieved over the spate of gun attacks on the supporters of Mayor Antonio Miro and his political rival Norma Pinson.
