BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – SkyJet Airlines started its direct flights to Manila and Siargao island yesterday.

SkyJet’s 80 to 100-seater British Aerospace 146 planes will have flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and SkyJet Airlines earlier announced.

The flight from Manila departs at 6 a.m. and arrives at the Siargao airport at 7:40 a.m. while the flight from Siargao leaves at 8:10 a.m. and arrives in Manila at 9:50 a.m.

Surigao del Norte Gov. Sol Matugas said the direct flights would boost tourism in the province as well as provide employment to its residents.

Siargao is known as the surfing capital of the Philippines.
