5 hurt in 5-vehicle smashup

MANILA, Philippines - At least five persons were injured when a passenger jeep rammed into a sport utility vehicle (SUV), causing a five-vehicle collision and a traffic jam along A. Bonifacio Avenue in Manila yesterday morning.

Jeepney driver Marlon Avenido, 23, was arrested and charged with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple injuries and damage to property.

Avenido told investigators the jeepney’s brakes failed as he was driving toward Quezon City.

The collision damaged a Mitsubishi Adventure, a pickup truck, another SUV and a bus.
